Services
At Zero Hunger, we do more than just distribute food. We also provide support by sharing information on Safer & Warmer Homes, offering practical cooking advice, guiding individuals on benefits, and connecting them with the right services. Our dedicated volunteers bring a wealth of life experience from diverse backgrounds, giving us the extensive knowledge needed to assist with a wide range of needs.

Food Support
Zero Hunger provides comprehensive food support services to our community, including cooking training designed to empower individuals with practical culinary skills. Through hands-on workshops and interactive sessions, participants will learn how to prepare nutritious, budget-friendly meals using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. This initiative not only helps reduce food waste but also promotes healthier lifestyles and self-sufficiency among residents.

Advocacy Services
Zero Hunger is not only committed to providing food support but also plays a pivotal role in advocacy for food security. We work closely with local authorities, community partners, and policymakers to raise awareness of food poverty issues and promote sustainable solutions. By hosting community forums, engaging in public discussions, and pushing for effective policy changes, Zero Hunger ensures that the needs of vulnerable populations are at the forefront of the conversation, helping to build a more equitable and resilient food system for all.

Fundraising
Zero Hunger needs to raise funds to expand and enhance its vital services for our community. As demand for food support, cooking training, and advocacy initiatives grows, additional funding is essential to ensure we can continue to provide nutritious food and comprehensive support to those facing food insecurity. Increased resources will allow us to reach more families, improve our outreach programs, and drive sustainable change, ensuring that everyone in our community has access to the support they need.

Our
Story

Visionary Volunteers
Zero Hunger began as a grassroots response to the rising challenges of food insecurity and social isolation in Hampshire, Rushmoor, Basingstoke and surrounding communities. Inspired by the stories of neighbours and friends forced to choose between basic needs, we united to drive change. Leveraging Helen's extensive knowledge of the Social Care Sector and insights into food poverty, we envisioned a movement that would tackle both the physical and emotional impacts of food insecurity. With the support of family, friends, local organizations, supermarkets, businesses, and volunteers, Zero Hunger was established not only to provide quality food but also to build a compassionate network where individuals can access community, resources, and a sense of belonging. Today, the movement continues to expand, fueled by the belief that everyone deserves nutritious food and meaningful human connection.
We now have approximately 45 outstanding volunteers, and our numbers continue to grow. They support us in a range of roles—from preparing refreshments to collecting goods—with each volunteer contributing at a level that suits their unique strengths and availability.

Food Distribution
Providing Nourishment
Fighting Hunger, Feeding Hope
Our Food Distribution Program ensures that vulnerable members of our community have consistent access to nutritious, wholesome fresh food. Through strong partnerships with local organisations, supermarkets, donors, and food organisations, we provide essential food supplies to those facing food insecurity — responding to immediate hunger crises while encouraging healthy eating habits.
But we go beyond the plate. By creating welcoming, inclusive spaces, we also support mental health, reduce loneliness, and help people feel seen, valued, and connected.
Together, we’re not just feeding bodies — we’re nourishing lives.
Education
Empowering Communities
Education is key to sustainable change. We will provide educational resources and training on nutrition techniques and growing foods at home to empower communities to grow their own food and make informed choices about their diet. By educating individuals, we can break the cycle of hunger and poverty.
Advocacy
Creating Awareness
Advocacy plays a crucial role in influencing policies and raising awareness about food insecurity issues and the wider social insecurities. We advocate for sustainable food systems, equitable food distribution, and policies that support access to nutritious food for all, whilst promoting social interaction and multigenerational activities. By speaking out, we can drive lasting change and ensure a hunger-free future for all whilst helping to prevent social isolation.
